What is Heart Mind?

Welcome to Heart Mind Wellness!

Years ago I made a long-term goal: to start a holistic wellness practice where I can integrate my clinical social work/therapy, art, education, spiritual wellness coaching, and yoga background.

I know the importance of mind, body, heart, and spirit connection and balance to heal and grow on life's path.

I first heard of Heart Mind in some yogic readings years ago. It caught my attention and I began to study. As one of my professors would say, "We often forget that our minds are part of our bodies."

The ancient Chinese concept "Xin" (pronounced chin) is translated as both "heart" and "mind." This philosophy was built on the idea that the heart is the center of human cognition. Over centuries and continents, the concept spread and evolved.

But one thing remains fairly consistent: emotions and Thoughts are not separate entities. The Sanskrit word "Citta" translates to heart-mind and is integral to Buddhist Psychology.

Strengthening the connection, finding balance between the two, allows us to expand, grow, and heal.

But this concept did not stay in Eastern thought or centuries and centuries ago. Bessel van der Kolk wrote The Body Keeps the Score: Brain, Mind, and Body in the Healing of Trauma & Peter Levine's extensive research on somatic healing embraces the concept of "Citta." Not just our minds but our bodies and hearts remember our experiences.

I invite you to think about your Heart Mind connection.

Is it balanced?

Is it strong?

Is it healthy?

Is it nurtured?

Give yourself the space just to notice in this present moment that connection within yourself.

Namaste,

Sara

About Me

My name is Sara. I am a Trauma-Informed Somatic Holistic Therapist, Educator, Embodiment Coach, Reiki & Clinical Hypnosis Practitioner, Yoga & Mindfulness/Meditation Facilitator.

A Little Bit of my Background

In my early career, I was an Art Teacher. I’ve always had a love for teaching and helping others. It made sense to combine those passions with my love of art.

I decided to head back to school to pursue a degree in Clinical Social Work. I had this vision of a practice in which I could help people heal, learn, grow, and become more empowered by integrating their body, mind, heart, and soul..

I worked in a community mental health agency in Tennessee for many years until I moved to New Jersey and made the decision to open my private practice. I wanted to create a space where I could combine traditional approaches to therapy and alternative healing methods.
